Introduction
Job opportunities for RHIAs exist in multiple setting throughout the healthcare industry. These include the continuum of care delivery organizations, including hospitals, multispecialty clinics and physician practices, long-term care, mental health, and other ambulatory care settings. The professional has seen significant expansion in non-patient care settings, with careers in managed care and insurance3 companies, software vendors, consulting services, government agencies, education and pharmaceutical companies.

Although most RHITs work in hospitals, they are also found in other healthcare settings including off-based physician practices, nursing homes, home health agencies, mental health facilities, and public health agencies. In fact, RHITs may be employed in any organization that uses patient data or health information, such as pharmaceutical companies, law and insurance firms, and health product vendors.
